Distance Learning
Are you interested in getting your GED but our class times
don’t work for you? Are you in class now but want to work more often to reach
your goal? Perhaps Distance Learning is for you.
All you need is an appropriate reading level, either
a computer with internet access or a VCR, and the willingness to work
independently.
A Vita staff person will meet with you and then refer you
to the Distance Learning Project which is part of the Pennsylvania Department of
Education Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education.
As with all our literacy programs, there is no cost to the
student.

FAQ’s about Distance Learning
1.
What is Distance Learning?
Distance Learning refers to instruction delivered in non-classroom settings.
It can take many forms. At Vita Education Services, Inc., students can
communicate with an instructor via e-mail and complete assignments on their own
time. Students can also receive material in the mail and talk to an instructor
by telephone.
2.
What programs does Vita offer through Distance Learning?
Students who are interested in working toward their GED may choose the
Distance Learning option.
3.
Do I need a computer in order to participate in Distance Learning?
If you do not have access to a computer, you can still work on your GED
through Distance Learning. A teacher will send you VCR tapes to view and
workbooks to complete and return to the teacher.
4.
Who is a good candidate for Distance Learning?
Students who are self-starters, have good organizational and study skills
and who can work independently should consider Distance Learning. In addition,
Distance Learning students need to be at a high school level in reading and math
in order to be successful. A strong desire to learn and the ability to stay
focused while working toward a goal are also positive qualities of successful
Distance Learners.
