2006-2007 Summary of
Programs
Vita Education Services is proud to have served Bucks County residents by
providing these educational opportunities in the
grant year July 2006 – June
2007:
Literacy Program:
-
355
adult students received one-to-one tutoring and small group instruction in
Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL)
-
837 adult students enrolled in 30 classes in Basic
Literacy, GED preparation and ESL at 9 sites throughout the County.

63 families participated in two Family Literacy Programs
at Bensalem Head Start and Snyder-Girotti Elementary School, Bristol
Borough.

15 students are participating in the Adult Diploma
Program in conjunction with Bensalem and Bristol Township School districts

Demographics: 55% of Vita’s students live in lower Bucks
County, 45% reside in central and upper Bucks County. About 69% of Vita’s
students are in ESL programs. ESL students come from 60 different countries
and speak 32 different native languages.
Personal Decision Making (PDM) Program: Criminal Justice Program
552 men and women
were served in the Bucks County Correctional Facility through these programs:

One-on-one PDM tutoring taught by well-trained volunteers

Eleven 12-hour classes taught by staff
-
Three 42-hour courses in Job Readiness taught by staff,
assisted by business community volunteers and mentors

An ongoing component of the Intensive Drug and Alcohol
Rehabilitation Program
