– Findings from the New England Adult Learner Persistence Project
Vita’s board, staff, and volunteers believe in the transformative powers of education to create a better society. This belief has provided Vita with both opportunities and challenges to develop programs that meet the changing needs of our adult learners. We serve the unemployed, underemployed, and uneducated adults in the Bucks County community and the criminal justice system. As such, much of our programming focuses on developing skills that allow our students to gain entry to a highly competitive work environment, to transition to further education and training, and to support their children’s success in school.
Vita is the lead literacy agency in Bucks County, offering free instruction to prepare adults to function effectively in their roles as family members, employees, and citizens. Our programs are designed to improve skills in basic reading, writing and math; to prepare to pass the GED or HiSET High School Equivalency (HSE) test; and to increase English proficiency.
Vita offers programs in the community and the criminal justice system based on our Decisions process model. We are the largest provider of educational services in the Bucks County Correctional Facilities. Our copyrighted programs include Decisions For Living, Decisions For Action, Decisions For Change, and Decisions For Teens. Vita also offers its Job Readiness course and Employment Ready workshops.
Vita develops customized programs for improving workplace literacy. Our workplace literacy programs provide on-site assessment, evaluation, and customized literacy curricula and instruction to help improve employees’ efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity on the job.
