Summary of Programs 2009-2010
Literacy Programs
- Provided one-to-one tutoring and small group instruction in Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) to 156 adult students
- Provided 16 classes to 411 adult students in Basic Literacy, GED preparation and (ESL) at eight sites throughout the County
- Provided two Family Literacy Programs at Bensalem Head Start and Snyder-Girotti Elementary School in Bristol Borough, serving 37 families
- Twelve students participated in the Adult Diploma Program in conjunction with Bensalem School District.
- Demographics: 66% of Vita’s students live in lower Bucks County, 34% reside in central and upper Bucks County. About 79% of Vita’s students are in ESL programs. ESL students come from 60 different countries and speak 32 different native languages.
DECISIONS Programs
Served 400 men and women in the Bucks County Correctional Facility through the following programs:
- One-on-one Personal Decision Making (PDM) tutoring taught by well-trained volunteers
- Twelve 14-hour PDM classes taught by staff
- Three 42-hour courses in Job Readiness taught by staff, assisted by business community volunteers and mentors
- PDM Workshop Groups at the Men’s Community Corrections Center

Served 20 teens and young adults through programs given at the Youth Center at the PA CareerLink, Bristol
