Summary of Programs 2010-2011

Literacy Programs

  • Provided one-to-one tutoring and small group instruction, taught by well-trained tutors, in Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) to 175 adult students
  • Provided 25 classes, taught by professional staff,  to 488 adult students in Basic Literacy, GED preparation and (ESL) at six sites throughout the County
  • Provided two Family Literacy Programs at Bensalem Head Start and Snyder-Girotti Elementary School in Bristol Borough, serving 37  families
  • Demographics: 66% of Vita’s students live in lower Bucks County, 34% reside in central and upper Bucks County. Sixty-three percent of Vita’s students are in ESL programs; 27% are in basic leteracy and GED programs.

Decisions for Living (DFL) Programs
Served 369 men and women in the Bucks County Correctional Facility through the following programs:

  • One-to-one DFL tutoring taught by well-trained volunteers
  • Twelve 14-hour DFL classes taught by staff
  • Three 36-hour courses in Job Readiness taught by staff, assisted by business community volunteers and mentors
  • Decisions for a Better Life Workshop Groups at the Men’s Community Corrections Center

Decisions for Teens (DFT) 
Served 300 teens and young adults through programs given at the YWCA and the Bristol Township School District
