Literacy Center Of Bucks County

The Literacy Center of Bucks County offers free one-to-one tutoring, small, groups and classes in the community and at the Bucks County Correctional Facilities to prepare adults to function effectively in their roles as family members, employees and citizens.  Our programs are designed to improve skills in basic reading, writing, math, GED preparation and English as a Second Language.

An English as a Second Language
group meets in Vita’s Doylestown
office.
These students come from
China, India, Bulgaria and Albania.

Students are interviewed and evaluated in order to determine individual interests and needs. This information is used to create individualized programs for students.  Trained volunteers provide instruction using innovative techniques and multi-media.  Video, audio tapes, and computers supplement tutoring sessions.

GED Preparation Classes help students build foundation skills in reading, writing and math to a high school level. Students will become familiar with the new GED test and have an opportunity to practice.

Basic Skills Classes help students improve reading, writing and math skills.

English as a Second Language Classes emphasize Communicative English to help students improve language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
