Vita Education Services offers free Adult Basic Education (ABE) /Adult Secondary Education (ASE) programs for adults who wish to improve their reading, writing and math skills as well as obtain their GED or High School Diploma. Students are focused on the core goals of improving their literacy skills, obtaining their GED or high school diploma, and transitioning to a Training Program or Post-Secondary Institution.
Climbing the Stairs to Success
We want our students to be successful in reaching their goals. Students’ successes are measured by the completion of core goals or advancements from one educational level to the next. Vita’s literacy programs are designed to help individuals move sequentially through Vita’s step system of educational levels. There are six educational levels for native speakers. Programming is based on these levels, which are shown below. Students’ educational levels are determined in the beginning and at the end of each semester.

Students at this level benefit from a combination of individual tutoring, small group sessions and computer-assisted learning which incorporates the Reading Horizons Computer Program.
How will students know if they qualify for this program?
All students are required to take a Test of Adult Basic Education. The results of this test will help to understand the starting point for instruction.
Where does this program take place?
Tutoring individually, in small groups and computer-assisted learning takes place in public places such as high schools, libraries and churches.
How long is the program?
The basic literacy program length is dependent on the core goal of our students. Programs vary in length from ten weeks to thirty weeks. It is most important for students to recognize the time commitment needed to improve their educational levels. Students are required to attend a minimum of four hours a week in instructional programming.
How does a student get started?
Students must first attend an Orientation and Registration session at one of our various locations. At the orientation, you will receive more information regarding our programs, requirements, schedules and locations. In order to be registered for a Vita program, you must take a Test of Adult Basic Education. This assessment allows us to place you in the right program depending upon your level and core goals.
