Background: Vita Education Services has a 31 year history of working with adult learners and volunteers. The tutoring program at Vita provides one on one and small group instruction led by well-trained volunteers in basic literacy, GED preparation and English as a Second Language. Volunteers interested in becoming tutors are required to take a twelve hour training course in literacy or English as a Second Language. This provides the foundation skills needed to become a tutor. Students interested in being tutored are individually interviewed and assessed. Goals are clarified and an individual program plan is written. Tutors are given the plan and are expected to meet with students a minimum of two hours per week to reach literacy goals. The Tutoring Program Coordinator is critical to the success of the program. The Coordinator develops relationships with tutors and students to support matches; the Coordinator creates a viable plan, recommends instructional techniques and offer suggestions to ensure student/tutor matches are meeting the goals of the program. Reports to: Director of Programs Status: Part Time, 18 hours per week, 52 weeks Salary: This employment classification is designated as part time employee. The salary is $14,976.
